Aim & Scope

The aim of the Journal of Adolescent and Addiction Research is to advance scientific knowledge and understanding of adolescent development, addiction, and related behavioral health issues. The journal seeks to:

  1. Promote Research Excellence: JAAR publishes original research articles, reviews, meta-analyses, and methodological papers that contribute to the empirical evidence base on adolescent health and addiction. We encourage submissions that employ diverse methodological approaches, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research.
  2. Address Multifaceted Challenges: JAAR welcomes submissions that explore the complex interplay of biological, psychological, social, and environmental factors influencing adolescent health and addiction outcomes. Topics of interest include substance use disorders, behavioral addictions, co-occurring mental health disorders, risk and protective factors, developmental trajectories, and intervention strategies.
  3. Inform Policy and Practice: JAAR seeks to bridge the gap between research, policy, and practice by publishing articles that have implications for clinical practice, public health policy, and prevention efforts targeting adolescent substance use and addiction. We encourage submissions that provide actionable insights for policymakers, practitioners, educators, and other stakeholders working with adolescents.
  4. Promote Equity and Inclusion: JAAR is committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in adolescent health and addiction research. We welcome submissions that examine health disparities, cultural influences, and social determinants of health affecting marginalized and underserved adolescent populations.
  5. Facilitate Interdisciplinary Collaboration: JAAR serves as a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers from diverse fields, including psychology, psychiatry, public health, social work, education, sociology, neuroscience, and allied disciplines. We encourage submissions that integrate knowledge and methodologies from multiple disciplines to address complex issues at the intersection of adolescent development and addiction.

In summary, the Journal of Adolescent and Addiction Research provides a forum for advancing scientific inquiry, promoting evidence-based practices, and advocating for the health and well-being of adolescents affected by addiction and related behavioral health disorders. We invite researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to contribute their expertise and insights to further our collective understanding of this critical area of inquiry.
